FACT OF THE DAY: In 1999, art researcher Gergely Barki was watching the children’s movie “Stuart Little” when he recognized a painting in the background as“Sleeping Lady with Black Vase,” a long-lost masterpiece by Hungarian artist Robert Bereny. Barki made contact with an assistant set designer on the film, who had bought the painting at an antique shop in Pasadena for $500 and luckily had kept it after production wrapped. In December 2014, the painting sold for $285,000.
