FACT OF THE DAY: The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus was built near present-day Selçuk, Turkey at a holy site that has been in use since at least 1200 BCE. The temple was destroyed and rebuilt at least three times; the second version, built from about 550 BCE, was 50% longer and wider than the Parthenon and might have been the first Greek temple built from marble. This version was destroyed by arson in 356 BCE, on or near the birthday of Alexander the Great.
