FACT OF THE DAY: In 1943, a park ranger in Uttarakhand, India discovered over 300 ancient skeletons submerged in a shallow lake over 16,000 feet above sea level. The bodies—since dated to ca. 850 CE—each exhibited severe trauma to the head from blunt objects. It has since been speculated that the entire party perished from a sudden, severe hailstorm; this story is partially confirmed by local folklore that predates the discovery of the skeletons.
