FACT OF THE DAY: When threatened or captured, the worm-like hagfish secretes a slime along its entire body that expands into up to 20 liters of goo upon contact with water, potentially clogging the gills of a predator. The hagfish then ties itself into a knot—the only animal known to do so—which scrapes the slime off of its body from head to tail and allows it to escape.
