FACT OF THE DAY: In 1916, British prisoner of war Robert Campbell wrote to Kaiser Wilhelm II asking to be allowed to visit his dying mother in England. Wilhelm granted the request, and Campbell voluntarily returned to the German side after a week, remaining a POW until the end of the war.
