FACT OF THE DAY: If a person is born blind and gains vision later in life, they are generally incapable of interpreting what they see. Such individuals can’t distinguish basic shapes from each other, pictures from real objects, or near from far. Some have learned to ignore their own vision—effectively becoming blind again—rather than train for years to use it.
