FACT OF THE DAY: Moby-Dick was in part inspired by an albino sperm whale named Mocha Dick, who lived near the island of Mocha, Chile. Mocha Dick survived dozens of encounters with whalers between 1810 and 1838. When he was finally killed, Mocha Dick was 70 feet long, one of the largest sperm whales ever recorded, and had 19 harpoons embedded in him.
