FACT OF THE DAY: Air Force One is only referred to as Air Force One when the President is onboard. It has a normal call sign, like any other airliner, when he is not. When Lyndon Johnson was inaugurated as he flew back to Washington on November 22, 1963, the plane’s call sign changed from “SAM 26000” to “Air Force One” in mid-air.
