FACT OF THE DAY: The creator of the MP3 format, Karlheinz Brandenburg, used the original version of “Tom’s Diner,” which is a capella, as his test track. Brandenburg refined the format so that Vega’s voice was still clear after audio compression. Vega is sometimes called “The mother of the MP3.”

Kevin’s been making stuff up for 40 years, 17 of them as a part of the Austin improv community. He teaches at Merlin Works. He runs the AIC Facebook group and nightly theater listings.
