FACT OF THE DAY: Despite wide ranges in lifespan and heart rates, nearly all animals produce around 800 million heartbeats in an average lifespan; you can roughly estimate the estimated lifespan of an animal by taking its pulse. The greatest exception to the rule is humans, who live about three times longer than we did pre-civilization and thus produce about 2.4 billion heartbeats per average lifetime.
